從二○○八年的奧運到今年上海世博，這些社會矛盾尤其被加深：為了建造一個嶄新的城市，為了證明「城市，讓生活更美好」，要先把那些城市中不明亮的角落一一拆遷，來滿足他們對「美好生活」的定義，和地產商的龐大利益。而所有被迫拆遷戶一旦用憲法賦予他們的權利去上訪，所面對的是被毆打、被虐待、送勞教、送精神病院，然後和推土機下的廢墟瓦礫一起消失於公眾視野的地平線之外。（最近紐約時報特約記者出版一本新書《上海骷髏地》，紀錄了這些上訪者的悲哀）。
